Why Volusion owners look elsewhere
-
01
An uncertain future
Volusion went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020. Owners worry about how long the platform will get support and updates.
-
02
Few new features
Product development has slowed. Features that are standard elsewhere, like modern checkout options, arrive late or not at all.
-
03
Dated templates
Many Volusion themes were not built mobile first. Updating the design means heavy template work on an aging system.
-
04
A small app ecosystem
Fewer apps and integrations mean more manual work, or no connection at all to the marketing tools you want.
-
05
Rigid URL patterns
Product and category URLs follow fixed -p/ and -s/ patterns with .htm endings. You cannot shape them for SEO.
-
06
Limited content tools
Content and blog tools are basic. A serious content plan needs something closer to WordPress.
What we migrate from Volusion
-
Products and options
Products, option categories and child products become WooCommerce variable products, with SKUs, prices and stock kept.
-
Categories and images
The category tree moves with descriptions and images. Product photos are moved and compressed for faster pages.
-
Customers and orders
Profiles, addresses and full order history. Volusion does not export passwords, so customers get a reset email at launch.
-
Every Volusion URL redirected
All -p/, -s/ and ProductDetails.asp URLs get 301 redirects to clean WooCommerce URLs, so search traffic follows.
-
SEO metadata and reviews
Meta titles, descriptions and product reviews move over, and we fix duplicate titles on the way.
-
Full migration service
Payments, shipping and email setup are part of the plan. See how every project runs on our migration page.

Volusion vs WooCommerce
The main difference is whether the platform will keep growing with you.
| Volusion | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform development | Slow | Active, open source |
| App ecosystem | Small | Large |
| Content and blog | Limited | Full WordPress CMS |
| URL control | Fixed -p/ and -s/ patterns | Fully configurable |
| Code access | Limited | Full access |
| Hosting | Volusion only | Any host you choose |
How the migration works
-
Audit
We review your Volusion data, apps and URLs, including option categories and child products, and agree a fixed scope and price. Takes 2-5 days. -
Test import
We run a full test migration to a staging site so you can check products, customers and orders. Usually done in the first week. -
Build
We rebuild the design and features in WooCommerce with custom Gutenberg blocks, with weekly demos. Takes 1-8 weeks depending on size. -
Launch
We sync new orders and customers, switch on 301 redirects and move the domain. Volusion stays live until the switch, so no orders are lost. -
Support
We watch orders, speed and Search Console in the weeks after launch. Then you can move to a monthly support plan.
What our clients say
Volusion migration FAQ
What Volusion owners ask before they move.
How long does a Volusion to WooCommerce migration take?
A small store with up to 1,000 products takes 2-4 weeks. Larger catalogues take 4-10 weeks. You get a fixed timeline after the audit.
Can customers keep their Volusion passwords?
No. Volusion does not export passwords. Customers set a new one through a reset email we send when the new store goes live.
What happens to my -p/ and -s/ URLs?
Each one gets a 301 redirect to its new WooCommerce URL, so rankings and old links keep working.
Can you move my order history?
Yes. Orders move with their items, totals, addresses and statuses, and stay linked to each customer.
Should I move now or wait?
Moving before you are forced to gives you time to test. We plan the switch around your sales calendar.
Will the new store look different?
It can look the same or better. Most Volusion owners use the move to get a faster, mobile-first design.
