What breaks when you sell across the EU
-
01
The wrong VAT rate
Once your EU distance sales to consumers pass 10,000 euro a year, you charge VAT at the customer's country rate. Many stores still charge their home rate.
-
02
B2B customers charged VAT
Business buyers expect reverse charge. Without a live VAT number check, you either charge VAT wrongly or accept fake numbers.
-
03
Cookie banners that do nothing
Analytics and ad pixels often fire before the visitor gives consent. The banner is there, but the tracking ignores it.
-
04
Missing local legal pages
German shoppers, for example, expect an Impressum, AGB and withdrawal instructions. Missing pages invite warning letters from competitors.
-
05
Invoices your accountant rejects
Gaps in invoice numbers, no VAT breakdown per rate and no credit notes for refunds create work at every VAT return.
-
06
No local payment methods
Dutch shoppers look for iDEAL, Belgians for Bancontact and many Germans for SEPA or Klarna. Card-only checkouts lose them.
An EU-ready WooCommerce store
-
VAT and OSS setup
Tax rates per EU country, prices shown with the right VAT, and order reports by country and rate that your accountant can use for the OSS return.
-
B2B VAT number validation
VAT numbers checked against VIES at checkout, reverse charge applied for valid business buyers and the check result stored with the order.

GDPR consent and cookies
A consent banner that really blocks scripts until consent, Google Consent Mode v2, and data export and erasure requests handled in WordPress.
-
Legal pages and checkout wording

-
Invoices and credit notes
PDF invoices with sequential numbers and VAT per rate, credit notes for refunds, and a link to your accounting or ERP system.

EU payment methods and PCI
SEPA, iDEAL, Bancontact and Klarna through gateways such as Stripe, Mollie or Adyen, with hosted payment fields that keep card data off your server.

EU compliance FAQ
Short answers for cross-border sellers. This is not legal or tax advice.
How do you set up EU VAT OSS in WooCommerce?
We add VAT rates for each EU country, charge VAT based on the customer's address and build reports by country and rate. You or your accountant then file one OSS return in your home country.
Do you give legal or tax advice?
No. We are developers. Your accountant and lawyer decide the rules and texts, and we implement them correctly in WooCommerce.
Can you check EU VAT numbers for B2B customers?
Yes. We check VAT numbers against the EU VIES service at checkout, apply reverse charge for valid numbers and store the result with the order.
Is WooCommerce GDPR compliant?
WooCommerce gives you the tools, such as data export and erasure. Compliance depends on your setup, especially which scripts run before consent, and that is what we fix.
Do I need to worry about PCI compliance?
Yes, every store that takes cards does. Hosted payment fields from gateways such as Stripe, Mollie or Adyen keep card data off your server, which keeps your PCI scope small.
Which EU payment methods can you add?
SEPA Direct Debit, iDEAL, Bancontact, Klarna and cards through one or more gateways. We choose the gateway based on your countries and fees.
